Are you a beginner acoustic guitar player? If you are, you may want to consider buying coated strings. Coated strings are just like other acoustic strings except they are coated to help your fingers glide better across the frets. In other words, they don't hurt as much when you are changing chords.
Go ahead ' get excited! This is a sigh of relief for beginning guitarists - especially once you get to learning that darned F Bar-chord! There are many different brands of coated strings but the most popular brands are made by Elixer and Ernie Ball.
If your goal is to find strings that don't hurt as much, buy coated strings. Generally coated strings cost a little more but they will allow you to get used to changing chords until you start to build up your callouses. Coated strings are also great if you are just going for speed. Coated Strings + Extra Light Gauge Strings = Speed.
Buying noncoated guitar strings
Noncoated strings are great for a fuller sound and come in a variety of weights. You'll especially notice a difference on an acoustic guitar. They won't feel as smooth as coated strings and will probably challenge your callouses a bit more. If you are going for a fuller sound, buy heavier weight noncoated guitar strings.
